It was 1964 when the Munich City Council decided to build a television tower on what was then known as Oberwiesenfeld - to improve the radio and TV programmes for the city’s citizens. The 1972 Summer Olympics turned the tower into a world-famous landmark of the city and a major public attraction in the Olympic Park.
