Pope Honorius III entrusted the basilica to Saint Dominic as the Roman seat of his Order, the Order of Preachers, known today as the "Dominicans".

La Basilica di Santa Sabina è una delle chiese più antiche di Roma, costruita tra gli anni 422 – 440 e conserva, nonostante tutti i cambiamenti avvenuti nel corso dei secoli, quell’atmosfera austera e solenne che incorniciava il radunarsi delle prime comunità cristiane quando celebravano l’Eucaristia. Papa Onorio III affidò la basilica a San Domenico come sede romana del suo Ordine, i Frati Predicatori, conosciuti oggi come “domenicani”.
