Its construction in the heart of the Latin Quarter began in the early 13th century on the site of a former Merovingian sanctuary. After the Hundred Years' War, the church was enlarged and rebuilt in pure flamboyant Gothic style, with, in the ambulatory, the famous "palm grove" in particular the "twisted pillar".
